A cat's skin and coat are often exposed to the elements, not to mention periods of moulting. But allergies are also a major cause of skin and coat problems. The diversity of causes often makes it difficult to establish a clear diagnosis and treat skin problems in animals. First, let's look at the difference between allergy and atopy. In the case of atopy, the animal has an allergic reaction to environmental substances such as dust mites or pollen that enter the body through the air or gastrointestinal tract. In the case of an allergy, the animal produces antibodies against allergens when it should not. In a healthy animal organism, these antibodies are only produced against pathogens. An allergic organism produces these antibodies in the presence of certain food proteins (food allergy), inhaled substances or materials in contact with the skin (contact allergy). 

Studies have shown that EPA extracted from salmon oil not only has a beneficial effect on allergies, but also on the immediate condition of the coat and skin. Salmon oil contains essential fatty acids omega 3 (19%) and omega 6 (18.7%), as well as omega 9 (39.7%), making it an excellent source of unsaturated fatty acids (82.8%).
